Monakrivo is a premium extra virgin olive oil made exclusively by cold-pressed extraction from select hand-picked olives of the koroneiki variety.
The producers trusted us to develop a new brand for their top-quality olive oil (brand name, logo design, packaging). The end goal was to make their product stand out in the international delicatessen market through effective branding and packaging design.
The brand name should be easy to read and pronounce by consumers worldwide. Also, it should differentiate the product from the competition, be consistent with its positioning in the premium food market, embody its exceptional properties, and tell a compelling story.
Eventually, we named the brand “Monakrivo.” It’s a beautiful Greek word with much emotional weight — for example, it’s what a parent calls their child. Monakrivo means “unique, precious, and beloved” all at once. A perfect fit for a product with unique origins (the trail from Ancient Elis to Ancient Olympia in Western Peloponnese), texture, and flavour, precious for its invaluable nutritional properties, and beloved by its makers and consumers alike.
For the logo, we wanted to create something simple, elegant, and timeless that works both as a symbol of familiarity (the olive oil is a household staple) and a seal of prestige (Monakrivo is not an ordinary olive oil). The outcome is a clear-cut illustration of an olive fruit between two leaves enclosed in a circle (like a seal).
The packaging design for the brand’s three olive oils (Limnes, Afanoules, and Bio) and two containers (250 and 500 ml) follows the same minimal visual approach as the logo, albeit with a creative twist. Every Monakrivo carafe features a motivational consumption level indicator on one side to encourage people to use more olive oil in their diet and reap all its nutritional benefits.
