Syllogi Ploussou is a family-owned winery with a history that spans over 80 years. The Ploussou family bottles and distributes wines and spirits either self-produced (from their vineyards in Crete) or made by select Cretan winemakers.

We were asked to design labels for three special distilled products: ouzo, raki, and mastic. The end goal was to make them stand out based on their Greek origins and power to keep the spirits up!

To do it, we focused on the three drinks’ common strengths. They all bring back pleasant summertime memories of joyful friendly gatherings whether by the sea or at some picturesque village square. Hence, we approached our subject playfully to highlight the carefree, convivial character of these rightfully beloved drinks. Our plan was to make each product look like the centerpiece of the party.

For each label, we created a different key visual inspired by an animal that frequently pops up in Greek traditional fables: the owl for mastic, the fish for ouzo, and the goat for raki. We added an image of the respective drink’s main ingredient (mastic, grape, anise) and a positive motto to give our design an even more spirited tone.

As a final touch, we added a common element to all three labels. The proverbial short wine glass found at every Greek tavern serves as a link between the three products and brings back fun memories like those that inspired us.
